Visiting Students Programme (VSP) in Physics
We run a Visiting Students Programme (VSP) in Physics for which students in M.Sc./M.S./M.Tech./final-year B.Sc./last two years of B.Tech./last three years of B.S.-M.S. programmes are eligible. Selected students will work in an area of physics under the guidance of a faculty member. At the end of the project, students are expected to present a seminar on their work.
Visiting Students are expected to stay for a period of at least four weeks during any time of the year that is mutually convenient. The maximum duration of stay is eight weeks. There are a large number of applicants in the summer and relatively few advisers, so applicants are encouraged to apply during other times of the year.
Selection is based on the student’s academic record and letters of recommendation, and is also subject to the availability of a faculty member to guide the student during the proposed period. The selected students will be paid to-and-fro (3AC) rail fare via the shortest route, provided accommodation on campus, and paid a stipend to cover local expenses.
Applicants must mention if they are eligible for KVPY, INSPIRE, the Science Academies, or any other similar fellowships. If an applicant is selected and is a recipient of any fellowship, HRI will not cover expenses already covered by the fellowship. This, however, will not have any bearing on the selection for the VSP.
Interested students must submit their application through the following Google Form only: click here.
APPLICATIONS SENT VIA EMAIL WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.
Applicants must fill in all required fields in the form with their Subject Area Preference(s) chosen from the list below, along with their Preferred Dates of Visit. They should also upload a curriculum vitae (CV) in PDF format (maximum size 2 MB), clearly stating the marks obtained in the last degree obtained. Referee details must also be provided in the form.
Recommendation letters must be sent directly by the referee to physvsprec@hri.res.in.
RECOMMENDATION LETTERS SENT TO ANY OTHER EMAIL ID WILL NOT BE PROCESSED.

Applicants who are not enrolled in M.Sc./M.S./M.Tech./final-year B.Sc./last two years of B.Tech./ last three years of B.S.-M.S. programmes will not be considered under the Visiting Students Programme and, if invited, will be treated as visitors. For such visitors, the initial period of visit shall not exceed one month. Any extension beyond one month will be considered only after an assessment of the visitor’s work and progress by the Physics Academic Committee, and will subsequently require approval of the full faculty.
